ErfinderWerk data sheet
This is a convenience translation. Only the German version is legally binding. Deutsche Fassung
ErfinderWerk is a product of Wagner Engineering GmbH.
This page is meant for the case that you want to use ErfinderWerk in your company and need approval to do so. It answers the questions that a patent department, an IT department or a data protection officer usually asks.
Or simply pass on this address. It always reflects the current status.
The current version at https://www.erfinder-werk.de/en/datenblatt/ is authoritative. This document is a printout of it. Before making a decision, check whether the status has changed.
1. What the application is
Capture inventions, structure them and develop them into structured documents.
ErfinderWerk is a web application for capturing technical inventions, structuring them and developing them into structured documents. It produces invention disclosures under § 5 ArbnErfG (German Employee Inventions Act), draft claims, figures and handover packages for patent attorneys. Another part calculates employee inventor remuneration according to the official guidelines.
It is not an IP management system and does not replace a patent department. It comes before it: with what the inventor brings along.
How it is used
The inventor drops in existing material, for example a presentation, notes or a photo of a sketch. This becomes a structured model of the invention with problem, solution, features and working principles. The inventor develops it further, alone or with the help of the AI, and generates the documents needed from it. Anyone who prefers to start without a template builds the model by hand on an open canvas.

2. Provider and contracting party
The provider of the application and contracting party is Wagner Engineering GmbH. ErfinderWerk is its product and is run under its own brand; there is no separate company behind it.

3. Where the data is stored
- The application runs on servers in the European Union.
- Uploaded files, such as sketches, lab notebook pages and drawings, are stored encrypted. So are backups.
- Each account is separated from the data of other accounts; the separation is enforced at database level, not only in the user interface.
A limit we state openly: Encryption protects against access to storage media and backups. It does not protect against a compromised application server, because that is where the key is. Anyone who has to rule this out needs customer-managed keys; this is not implemented today.
4. What is sent to the language model
The AI functions use models from Anthropic PBC. The path there is deliberately narrow:
- No direct path from the browser. Every call runs through a dedicated service on our server. No connection goes from the user's browser to the model provider.
- Masking before transmission. Names of inventors and editors, company names, email addresses, phone numbers, IBANs and credit card numbers are replaced and restored in the response.
- What is transmitted: the technical teaching of the invention, that is, features, effects and claims. Without it, the AI cannot work. This cannot be masked, and we do not claim otherwise.
- Images are not masked. An automatic replacement cannot recognize a letterhead on a scanned lab notebook page. Anyone uploading images should know this.
5. What the model provider guarantees by contract
Checked on September 11, 2026 against Anthropic's Commercial Terms and documentation:
- No training on customer content. Verbatim: “Anthropic may not train models on Customer Content from Services.” This applies to text and to images. The consumer terms of claude.ai changed in 2025 do not apply here; the application uses the API under the Commercial Terms.
- Deletion after 30 days. Inputs and outputs are automatically deleted by the provider within 30 days.
- Exception: If the provider's automated safety systems flag a call, the provider may retain the affected inputs and outputs for up to two years and classification scores for up to seven years.
- Place of processing: United States. The legal basis for the transfer is the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission, which are part of the data processing agreement with the provider. The provider does not currently offer processing exclusively in the EU, and we therefore do not promise it.
6. Operation without AI
The AI functions can be switched off. Then no content leaves our systems. What keeps working:
- the Idea Space with all building blocks, connections and files,
- the invention disclosure under § 5 ArbnErfG including export,
- the remuneration calculator in full, as it works without AI anyway,
- deadlines, costs and the handover packages.
For inventions with an increased need for protection, this is the recommended route.
7. What the application does not do
- No disclosure of content to third parties, except the named processors for operation and AI.
- No use of customer content for our own purposes, for examples or for further development.
- No tracking, no tracking pixels, no sharing with advertising networks; visitor numbers only from the hosting provider's anonymized server log files.
- No access by us to content, except at the user's express request or where it is unavoidable to fix a fault. Such access is logged and disclosed on request.
8. Roles under the General Data Protection Regulation
If an individual uses the application for their own purposes, we are the controller for the account data and the processor for the content they enter.
If a company uses the application for its employees, the company is the controller and we are its processor. For this case, we provide a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR, including the list of sub-processors. Request it at info@erfinder-werk.de.
9. Status of the application
ErfinderWerk launches in the fourth quarter of 2026. Anyone invited to try it out in advance works with a pre-release version; invited users receive the details with the invitation.
10. Contact
We are happy to answer technical questions from a patent department, an IT department or a data protection officer in detail, in writing for your records if you wish. Use the same route for the data processing agreement from section 8.
